This was how we came to investigate the effects of omega-3 in the first place. When our son was born many years ago, we noticed early on that he developed slower than normal at some neurobehavioral tasks. Even more curious was that there seemed to be enormous fluctuations from one day to the next. We couldn't help but wonder what triggered the changes, and if it was something within our control. We hoped and prayed that we might discover a way to make his life (and ours) a little easier.
Even as doctors, we had to struggle with the medical and paramedical communities. There were tests and more tests. There were vague suggestions, tips, resources. We tried medicines, special training programs - supposedly new, innovative, sensational, magical - but nothing seemed to be more effective than regular exercise, healthy meals, regular routines. And fish.
As we began to look at all the research on diets and supplements, a clear picture began to emerge. Omega-3 metabolism is involved in all brain functions and is the most vulnerable essential fatty acid in today's processed diets. We also learned that the dosages used in most clinical trials were far more than what most omega-3 supplements recommended; a real dose should be more like 8-12 capsules a day! Knowing that, it seemed impossible that a parent could ever get enough omega-3 into a child's mouth - particularly one with acute sensitivities - to see what omega-3 could really do.
Still, we were determined to find a way. Since we had spent many years practicing medicine in Norway, we knew many of the fish oil manufacturers there. We challenged them to come up with a fresh, neutral-tasting oil that had not been biologically-modified or processed; we wanted to see what the real power of omega-3 could do in the mind of a special needs child.
Well, last year, one company finally came through for us by creating an oil that is hand-crafted, cold extracted, painstakingly filtered, and, best of all, has no fish taste or smell. Kids can drink it straight or mixed in with juice, yogurt, even ice cream. Finally, it would be possible to serve a child a sufficient dose of omega-3 to have an impact.
And it has. Since we introduced Omega Cure last year, we have received feedback from special needs parents who have found the same results that we, as parents, had experienced firsthand. Omega Cure makes a difference. It works in all sorts of little ways, and in some cases, can make a dramatic change in a family's life. It is no silver bullet, but a stepping stone to reach the next level of mental and physical well being.
We wish you and your family the very best for the future, and hope you will enjoy some of the same successes as those of the families featured on our site. As we say in Norway,
"Skal!"
